A 6'' shad on a 135gm lead head which can be either fished on its own as a jig or used with a lead on a hopper rig
Each pack contains 1 lure plus 2 spare tails

from clare dragoon....

I tried out those storm shads that you gave me yesterday. 3 casts = 3 biggest
fish of the day, all 8lb plus! You would need to have some super glue with
you though, the shad was slipping from the lead head and was busted after
the 3 goes.

My favorite form of fishing is lure fishing, either casting or jigging.

I have a huge collection of lures, some very expensive that were made to catch anglers more than fish, but the style of lure in your picture is made by quite a few companies now....some quite plain and other actually look real....I think IMHO based on the results I (and many people I know) have had with them, they are now "my first in the box lures"

The tails can get a little chewed up at times, but they're not that expensive to replace anyways.

Is the colour in the picture one you have used I have some in a green colour havent had any luck yet but I dont think the colour is the best. Where did you get them?

i personally think the green/black mix ones work best

i ordered them from http://www.harrissportsmail.com but they are now discontinued there. They actually sent me different colors than I ordered, but i didn't bother making a fuss. They are available from veals. the two colours i left on the boat were the green, 2nd from left and i think its called red craw on the right. I'll find out which one caught the fish and will let you know.

When gilling for pollack with a team of 3 plastics, I nearly always use one of the small (2") green and black Storm Shads. This strangely, picks up a variety of different bits and pieces that you wouldnt normally associate with gilling techniques, deadly for pollack too. I've had ballans, gurnard, codling and ling hit them. Very handy mid comp.... :lol:

check these out arrived next day look the bis chech out the mac eels, they are the bis, he also has exellent feed backs :wink:

I better give the green ones a better go then only used them a couple of times, should just get a load of different colours and try them out then.

I normally jig them but the heads are quite light and were difficult to use in a swell. Tried them on a boom with a heavier weight but that wasnt the best. Any tips?

You can get those storm wildeyes in Southside Angling, I got a pack there a while back to try out.

When using them from a boat, depending on the depth of water used, there are 2 ways. In shallowish water, say up to 60/70 ft, a spinning rod is fine, let them all the way to the bottom and slowly retrieve them back to the boat. If you feel fish plucking, dont strike, just maintain a steady retrieve. In deeper water, use a french boom and a trace of say 8-10 ft of fluorocarbon, again, drop them all the way to the bottom, bring them back about halfway nice and slowly, then drop them down again. When targetting coalies over wrecks and the like, you can speed up the retrieve.

From the shore, spin them in deep water for pollack nice and slow again or over shallow reefy ground for bass with a quicker retrieve. Bear in mind, bass excepted, the best place for these lures is in the middle of the rough stuff so if you arent at the very least bumping bottom, you wont be in the fishy zone.

Thanks Pete will give them a go spinning this weekend will be going to galway. Not sure when I will get out in the boat again but thanks for the tips.

i've checked and it was the green colour that was very sucessful

Sorry for the hijack but i seen them made by Berkly in sented form and was wondering if they are any good?
