Peeler crab

#1 Post by brown07 »

Hi der was wondering how you would go about searching for crab like were would be the right habitat to get them in traps and how would you now were to leave the traps. what season would be the best time to search for them and what would be the right trap to use. I have never tryed to gather crab before but always wanted to try so any info on how to gather them would be much appreciated. cheers

Hi Brown07 im not an expert on this but what i do know is you place the traps on the low water mark bearing in mind that you dont put them down on a low spring tide otherwise you wont be able to get to them to easy.

Location ... well some would say that's a secret but a good place to put them would be wherever you are plagued by them while fishing ( at least you can get your own back on them  )

Apart from that you could try anywhere you have sand coming on too rock or even just sand only.
A lot of Anglers use old tires and some use Drain pipe cut in half Lengthwise and stuck Horizontally in the sand, you can really use anything even old cans lying on there side , really its all about trial and error.

Hope this helps and by the way welcome to the best Angling site in Ireland.

It all depends on how good a spot you have chosen but really you could check them the next day.

Don't forget you could also try putting a small amount of bait in the trap.
