At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Fox Impressa boat rod 12-15lb

#1 Post by bigkev »

Got this rod from Gerrys for 40 sterling
Was disappointed when it arrived , as appeared to be a thick heavy blank

However, having used it at the weekend, its very sensitive at the tip, with some beef to the blank from the butt section
It was just as much fun catching pollack to 5lbs as it was landing a tope later at 30lbs
Nice allrounder for the money

Sounds like a decent rod Kev...

I don't do much boat fishing and was looking for an all rounder a few months ago. I settled on the Masterline John Wilson. It's got 3 tips 12lb 20lb ant 30lb. It a cracking rod for the money and it's a very light slim blank. I mostly used the 20lb section as we were wrecking in 100M of water. It was bent double with the 11lb Coalie that I had, but it stood up to the test really well.

My only proble with the Masterline is that it seemed a little short (7ft I think) It's a little more costly though at about €125. Worth a look though.
