People:Me

Duration:10am till 1:15pm

Tide:Low at 11am

Weather:Wet, Very wet

Bait:sand eel rag

Rigs:3 hook paternosters, size 1/0 to 2s

Results:2 dogs, a 48cm bass, 4 whiting and 4 Dabs

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: Putting the report outside my blog as I asked a couple of people who may not read the blog. I had been advised to go elsehwhere as I could only get time to fish in the daylight but with the lashing rain I went for familiarity and close to home. The first three casts the lead triped with bites on a stong tide run. Downsizing some of hooks I got the dogs and small stuff. I had the bass dead on high water to sand eel. It was complete slack liner with the fish only pulling the last 20 yards in the surf hopping clear of the water. I continued to get fish til I upped hook size to all 1/0s again at the end with sand eel one the off chance of a ray as I had enough small stuff but nothing.

Fishing in daylight and with a small swell must of put the doggies off. I don't really know but I wouldn't of complained if I got just a few more. I fished in darkness twice last year with huge amounts of dogs and very little else as they were on the bait in secounds. I only fished one rod as the rain was milling down and I was soaked from just getting out to retrieve and cast.

I'm not good at judging what distance I was casting but at a guess the bass was caught at around the 60 yards mark as this was producing the fish. Up the beach where I was fishing there's a sand bank and I was in the gulley. I tried casting further at the end in the hope of ray. I'd love to get another species of ray but I won't be back up here till august. Still I was happy with my first bass of the year.

HI Pat,

Yes I was in the same spot. I parked by the road side and walked across the Dunes so I don't know if the travellers have upped stix from the car park. I can be in contact next time I'm up. I wasn't sure I'd be out till the last minute. i nearly turned home while driving with all the rain.
