Tope From Kiliney, So. Dublin

over the last few years i have heard of ray and smoothies getting caught from the shore in Killiney just wondering if anyone ever decided to give it a go for tope yet or if anyone ever seen any signs that tope mite visit the cover. theres plenty of small flats for them to feed on and my mate has caught a good few just out from the beach in his boat.

what do yous think i mite try it this year.

Definitely worth a shot samo. Like you said plenty have been caught just off the beach in recent years so has to be worth a go.

I've been told that if your into fish on Killiney and it goes quiet to change over to wire traces for the Tope, that comes from a good source, so it appears you can target them there pretty regularly.

I would assume that the guy that told me that, being a Dublin bait seller and long time match fisherman was not taking the piss, I'll be seeing him tomorrow evening and will ask him some more details.
But I haven't hooked one myself that I'm aware of unless I did and lost it due to not using wire traces, and I had some large bites there before which took lots of line before breaking off.

How come you only hear people talk of catching Tope in Killiney?,you never hear anybody talking about Tope at Greystones.I know there was a photo of a guy in Sea Angler a while back with a 55lb one from Kilcoole beach,but have never heard of any caught off Greystones beach which is bang in the middle?

Really,fair play.Where did you get them on the south beach?,do you have to cast at distance or are they in close,have been fishing that beach for years and never seen any caught.I might give it a go this Summer.Have caught small tope in Wexford but never that close to Dublin.

I know of tope being taken on Killiney, Bray and Greystones, ive had them on both Bray and Greystones but havnt had one myself from Killiney, my mate has had them fishing out from the life guard hut in killiney on hot summer nights when the mackeral are in. Ive never fished for them there because i fish for them on my local rock mark.
