all the old fishermen swearer by Ginger Plus when you are at sea White fish boiled in milk.

If that fails there is always Motiluem or Stematell (we use them at work) I'm not sure but u might need a script for then ??

Excuse my speeellinng but im on holls

motillium can be got over the counter, think stematill is also over the counter too..

what seems to work for me is a large dinner the day before, stugeron tablet before i go to bed, a small(ish) breakfast and another stugeron, and sandwiches on the boat for lunch(jalapeño and cheese sandwiches to be exact)..

too often seen people take the tablet just before the boat sets out and 2hrs later float away with breakfast

98% of people suffer from sea sickness!

But it affects people in different ways, A lot of people only feel tired. You will often hear the statement on a boat "Doesn't this salt air really tire you out". Well now you know the reason why!

If you are going to take tablets you must remember that they are a prevention and not a cure! If you are already feeling sick or have been sick it's too late to take them. You need to start taking them the previous day and again about an hour before you go to sea. This is a very common mistake people make with tablets.

A drink made from fresh ginger and boiling water is a good prevention remedy also but again it must be taken well in advance.

If you are unfortunate and throw up. I normally recommend you eat dry cream crackers ( This stops you empty reaching) or / and drink flat Cola (shake all the gas out first) this settles your stomach. You will probably still throw up but it will ease some of the suffering. The cola trick is also good for a normal upset stomach or stomach bug etc

Also keep out of the wheel house I get "casualties" to lie on the engine box looking up at the sky, a lot recover by just doing this alone for 10 -15 minutes.

Never ever fix a stare at a point of the boat or your shoe or try and read a text message you will hurl in no time

Spot on there.

My experience is that stugeron tablets work for some and wristbands for others.

Whenever I feel 'odd', I concentrate on the horizon. Thats solves the problem for me.

Would also say that smells of fuel, fish and food can promote s' sickness.

Definalely ginger helps, i used to have it then took ginger ale "you can get it in most super markets" one thing i have to take it one hour before i go i think it settles in my stomach or something but if i leave it later than that i usually get sick.

i heard just eating ginger works aswell but never tried it.

Here! Are you suggesting I may be a phantom farter...?? :D

I'd be sick if I was consistently fishing beside someone who kept catching more fish than me too....

I appear to have had that effect on the Domeney fella at the weekend too, maybe you're on to something there??

I get sick too . . .but i have taken "sealegs" the small tablets the last few times and have been ok.
Although i watch the weather and wont go out if its blowing too hard.

Other than that i find if i keep eating atleast i have sonething to puke up and thats a lot better than chucking the lining of your stomach . .

I also try not to bend over too often, tie gears or knots on an engine cover or that . .i find if i bend right over and root in my box for something . .i've had it . . .
Also stay away from the petrol/diesel fumes . . .

Hi Paul.
I get sick at times but find that 90% of it is mental attitude and if you go out with the feeling that you might get sick then more often than not you will.

For me its, Keep the head up, ginger biscuits and don't think about it.

Also helps if you can get out often.

i always try not to think about it but for example last week when off of loop head there was a mighty big swell and my stomach contents didnt agree with me.
also doing my best to shed a few pounds so as part of my dietry constraints the first solid food i had eaten in a few days was that morning, maybe not the best of ideas

I always find that if I don't have a breakfast before I go out that I'm am worse.

I was out a few weeks back and the weather was not too bad but I felt bad and one of the lads with me asked if I had eaten Before heading out. I had not and after he force fed  me with a few sandwiches I felt a whole lot better.

Do not laugh, this is a definit cure. I used to go out in the commercial fishing boats from Portavogie during my summer holidays on my brothers boat. The first ever summer i went out on the first day i was as sick as a dog, until my brother told me to put sticking plasters behind each ear...... i know it sounds stupid. But honestly it worked and for every year after that as soon as the boat left the harbour, out came the sticky plasters.

You dont actually stick them onto your ear its the part of skin between your ear and hair line.

Try it and see.

Coaster's point about it being somewhat a mental issue is a good one.
I spentmassive amounts of time at sea commercial fishing up until this year and only got sick twice but there were a lot of times I felt briefly quesy at the outset of a trip. When I felt this coming on I imeediately started intently staring at the farthest edge of the horizon for 5 minutes and bingo bango problem solved.
