People:me,

Duration:0800-1900

Tide:hw @ 11.15

Weather:initially, cold, breezey, brightening in the afternoon and quite warm

Bait:mackeral

Rigs:pulleys

Results:7 thornbacks [1 1/2, 3, 3 , 3 , 5 , 5 1/2, 9lbs respectively], 3 dogfish

Catch and Release:: Yes, strangely for ray all were hooked in the corner of the mouth

Report:

initailly headed to schull to fish the coming tide for a few huss.arrived at ahlf seven to the perfect conditions. overcast, gentle breeze and a coming tide. fished here for 4 hours with a few gentle knocks and one definate huss bite but alas i missed it (i'll put this down to being rusty  ) at 12 with the best of the tide gone i needed to come up with a plan b. eventually i decided that i would try my thornback mark. having never fished there at this time of the year i was a we bit scepticle. the fact that this mark fishes best for the last 2 hours of the going and the first 3hours of the coming. arriving at the mark there was a nice wee surf running.

first cast resulted in a small dog to mack and squid. 45 mins later i had not had a touch on either rod. i changed one bait to just mack on its own. 15 mins later i had my first thornie of the year, only a pound and a half but a start. for the next 3 hours i had 2 casts without a bite, resulting in 6 more thornies, 2 dogs and 2 missed bites, one definately a ray. all in all i pretty good days fishing

heres pics of the 2 biggest ray. all weights were estimates
