Fenit Island, Kerry, 12 may 2007

People: me

Duration: 3-4 hrs

Tide: rising then falling

Weather: breezy sunny

Bait: spinner german sprat

Rigs: german sprat with a salt water fly tied a few feet above it

Results: 1 Bass, 1 garfish

Catch and Release:: Yes/No



Report:

Ive passed this spot loads of times going to another spot on fenit island fishing its rocky water seems deep enough. I figured that it could hold bass. I caught the bass on the first cast I couldn't believe it!!! thought i might be in for some session wasn't to be still very happy with my results first garfish in years first bass in about a year happy days

well done. are garfish common around your area? its a fish i have been trying for ages to catch.

afaik they catch them on the pier during the summer. I have seen a couple caught over the years (none by me).

To be honest I think it could be my first ever! it was bigger than I expected :D

Nice one Bob, did the Bass take the spinner or the fly? it does work the other way round as well, the fly tied on to the back of the spinner, fishing with my Dad a few years back he had about 10 bass in succession, i could'nt get a cast in! that was in total darkness as well, all grabbed the fly! I keep forgetting to try that method, he is over for 10 days in the summer, no doubt it will be tried again then!

thanks . the took the spinner. as did the garfish. someone tode me at some stage that it looks as if the spinner is chasing the fly thereby making appear distracted and an easier target. I think I'll be keeping that on from now on.

liamport, i think i know a song about your problem...... no L no L ( sorry, i couldnt resist that),comin down in late july, be a pal and put me on a couple of decent rock marks.... ps any ideas on best bait for triggers and a mark for catchin em??? had one at dingle harbour mouth 2 year ago on rotten razorfish bait???
