Kerry - Dingle 4th - 7th

#1 Post by Eoghan »

Savage weekend again but the bass were smaller this time..? Larger bass off spawning..??? Who knows.
Will post pics later when home.
Girlfriend was with me so only had four sessions but no blanks which was good. Interestingly the Mackerel were gone and I confirmed this with the locals who had none since we were down two weeks ago.
I did have one on the last night but on a very slow deep retrieval and in near pitch dark.

Friday Morning Spot B
3 bass 1 trout. Biggest approx 2.5 Ib. Trout was about 1Ib. All caught before sunrise.
Flat calm and saw mackerel and trout tearing into sandeels on the surface of the water. Caught it on vid on my camera.
Some very large trout/bass skimming the surface taking sandeels.

Friday Night Spot B
2 bass early on and then nothing. Small bass, approx 1Ib.

Saturday Night spot B
5 bass - again small fish. Plenty of schoolies about. All taken in the space of about 30 mad minutes then quiet again.

Sunday night spot D - a little beach we use when conditions are right.
Best session of the weekend
6 bass - largest approx 2Ib so nothing to write home about there but nice numbers. Also landed one trout which jumped approx 6 times and put up some fight. Was about 2Ib also. Great swell on this little beach and not always safe but that night it was and I had a bass after one cast. Missed a basket load as they seemed to be very tentative in the take.
But the highlight of the night was on one retrieval the spinner was just out of the water on the beach in front of me and a trout came flying out after it an beached itself..! Scared the s*** out of me..! :-) He flapped about for a bit before the next wave took it back but what a thing to see..!

Ye did indeed and by the looks of some other reports its the case in many marks around the south.

On Sunday night from the rocks at the side of the beach I saw 2 or 3 bass at a time following my lure right back to my feet. They did seem to be nipping at the lure but not really attacking it. They were small bass but still heart stopping when you can see it.

Nice report Eoghan. I'd say the Bass hitting the sandeels on the surface was fantastic.

It was unreal. Started way out and they drove them closer to the shore and eventually within my reach but no takes. Think they were trout after them more then Bass, not sure but they broke the surface like a tuna would when after sardeens. Will try to take a photo cap of the video later and post it but doesnt do it justice.

Really need to take more time and get more pics of my fish. The problem is that when there are fish about I just want to get the lure back in the water.

I always I have the same issue taking photos myself. I bought a nice Nikon D70 and I never seem to take enough photos while out fishing. I'm looking for an EWA Marine waterproof case at the moment, but they are just too damn expensive. Hopefully I'll have one before the end of the summer and I can keep the camera with me while wading, and take a photo every now and then.

I used to just bring my phone and use that but then i figured what the hell. Didnt use the camera for much else so why not bring it. It was expensive enough, 8 mega pixel etc etc, have had some great pics from it. Would love to hire someone to take vids while im landing the bass, that would be class.

Congratulations Eoghan good job! :) Alas saying "bass 2.5 lb" still tells me nothing about its size :( still not get used to these units ;) How big they were? 50cm? 70cm? How many inches that is...

All best!

There is indeed Pete but my thoughts on this are that these are the fish that are not yet at spawning age and most of the other bigger bass are currently preoccipied with this. Who knows...

But then you'd have to reveal your secret marks to them
