Connemara, Rossaveal/Galway bay

People:me and 6 others

Duration:5 hours

Tide: fished up to high tide

Weather:clear with slight northerly wich moved westerly

Bait:mackerel

Rigs:3 hook spreader, 4oz running ledger

Results:mackerel,pollock, grey gurnard, whiting, pouting, ballan wrasse, garfish, dogfish, coalfish, thornback ray..

Report:headed out to the Aran islands and started fishing the Gregory sound, a few mackerel showed up.. this was time for me to change tactics now i had fresh bait..

put on a size 2 and 4oz running ledger and drifted it across the bottom.. very few fish were appearing with just the odd mackerel and coalfish being brought in by the others.. then all of a sudden THUMP THUMP WIRRR.. i had a nice little fight with a ballan wrasse of 3lbs.. back out again with a thin slither of mackerel and twitch twitch click click... a nice little grey gurnard appeared... following fish included a pouting that was nearly smaller than the hook |--------actual size-----------------| :shock: .. and then a nice little whiting showed up... went down to the kitchen for lunch.. nice toasted cheese sandwiches and the others had fresh mackerel (there goes more of my bait :cry: ) back up top and we moved into sheltered ground for ray..

i caught a thornie approx 3lbs at the same time the skipper pulled one up weighing about 2.5lbs.. and the ray seemed not to want to be around :? but countless dogs appeared ... then it was time for port.. one of the lads had to be back in Galway for 6pm :evil: :evil: .. the largest fish went to a young lad of 10 with a 6lbs pollock but i topped every one with a nice species count of 7... it was a short but most enjoyable day...
they all laughed at me when i put my wellies and floatie on before we got on the boat :( .. but revenge is sweet when a swell nearly broke over the bow and spray soaked nearly all of them :twisted: :twisted: except me... i made sure they (and half the islanders) heard me laugh.. :twisted:

quite a few... :D 116 fish 15 species....

this boat trip was for quality not quantity :D

He's the spit of Micheal so I'd say its the brother. Whats the boat like to fish from?

extremely comfortable.. plenty of room to move about. you can fish from all sides with no problems.. i'm definitely on for fishing off it again..
