New Generation Abu? Ambassadeur 6500 C3Mag

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

#1 Post by Drew »

Ok, The new range is out, has anyone got there hands on one yet?

They say they've got a 6:3:1 Gear Ratio, in comparison to Penns 6:1 on the Supermag?

has Abu brought out the Ultimate Shore Reel?

There is actually 3 different reels in 3 colour ways....that one there with the orange frame and gunmetal side plates called the Premier (comes in 6500 & 5500) there is another with gunmetal side plates and the normal chrome frame, this one also comes in 6500 and 5500 both have CT. the top of the range is the one with the bright red side plates, this one comes with the chrome frame and is only made as a CT and only comes as a 6500.

Is there any difference between them apart from colour?

Very minor...the red is the top of the range with all the bells and whistles, the other 2 models (4 if you include them as 6500 & 5500) are different because one has a rachet the other doesnt and I think there is a small difference regarding the magnets, not sure what though....all of these models have the new power handle and all have brass side plates so will be as heavy in weight as the chrome Rockets.

Edit: What these new models do all have is a much better drag system, but its not the kind of thing that matters to us and the UK anglers.

Peter Coogan has put a lot of thought into these reels and took them as far as they can go, without designing a whole new reel from the ground up. Goes to prove some of the bigger companies do listen....it may take time but it gets through to them in the end.
