Do you think clear mono leader as an advantage over coloured mono,
ie, not spooking fish?

Not sure, always use clear myself just in case but its probably just me being overly cautious

id rarely used colour mono on snoods...red at night for cod is meant to be productive... but for reel line i use clear..dont like fluroescent or any of that..

Thought I saw/heard somewhere that red is almost invisble under water.

the colours that we see are due to light spectrums being reflected off of a surface, so if we see red its because all light bar red passed through it and the red is reflected.
underwater all red is drained out of the light by the time you get down 10m, so as there is no red in the water red doesnt have any colour and looks grey or murkey.
different colours do this at different depths.

Hummm, I just bought a few yellow tappered leaders, wonder should I have gone for the clear??

Anyway my reason for opting for coloured was that it's easier than tying clear to clear plus on rigs I prefer to have the rig body a different colour to the snoods as it makes it easier to untangle.

As for the actuall effect colour has on fishing/fish, I don't know, suppose it would be fair to say that if they saw a long, coloured line leading to some food they'd be more wary of it but I hav'nt found it makes much difference...

it would be interesting to know, that if you were catching on a regular basis and was fishing with clear mono leader and clear hooklenghs, then switched to a coloured leader with clear hook lengths would the bites dry up, as i know with coarse fish if you up the breaking strain on line you wont get bite, i know coarse fish are different and caught over and over again so they are more educated, but it would be interesting to know would the same apply to sea fish thats never been caught before, has anyone tried it, it would be interesting to know.
manufactures make coloured lines saying its easy to see at night, easier to ty knots easier to see your leader coming in etc etc, it would be interesting to see the experiment, would someone try it as i dont have the opportunity to try it, as i live in manchester :roll:

The main line I use is black Ultima F1....shockleader almost anything as long as I can see it when I want to watch the knot coming in....Trace body always clear as are my snoods.

What was said about red being the first colour to disappear at depth is right then other colours follow on....I know guys who have tested line underwater, it can all be seen, even clear line in Gyn clear water will sparkle some light out....this is what I've been told from people who have tried it out.

The other comment, regarding thickness of line.....I know many world class match anglers who would use any breaking strain for small fish, but would go down to thinner diameter if targeting larger fish.
