Clifden/Ballyconeely/Cleggan Area Bait?

#1 Post by KenM »

Hey I headin down to this area tomorrow for the weekend.
Bringing the misus with me to hopefully catch her first fish.

I know this area pretty well, trouble is not for its surfing and diving not its fishing. Is there anywhere I can pick up some bait?

Was going to just buy some fresh mack in a shop. Would that work?

Thanks

fork and tide

#3 Post by kieran »

Hi

Bring a wide tined fork with you and you can dig lug and rag and if the tide is right at very low water you can get razors and white rag at various marks near Clifden. Talk to blackiemc on this forum, ask for a PM or contact some of the lads from Galway SAC - Peter Atkins knows the area extremely well and can help if you can find him (busy getting married).

BTW, you do not have to go far, some good rag beds near the town.

Hope this helps...

Hello Ken,
I was in that area last week, got a bit of fishin done myself TG! Although not a lot.
Will post up a shore report later.

For gettin bait, the easiest thing is to use John Stanley in Stanley's Shop in Clifden (everyone knows it). He now stocks a range of bait and I think it's a great option to buy off him, as he's a great supporter of the angling scene in the area, and will also give you good advice.
As Steve said macks will do you know harm to have.

I know the info's a bit late, but you can note it for future ref.

BTW spinning deep into the weed from the rocks with a spinner, or a jelly worm can work this early.

Hope you got on well.

Blackie
