Ill fitting spigots (ahem)
Lads, I've got two rods recently and I am having difficulty getting the sections to fit together. Should I very lightly sand down the rubber bung at one end or grease/oil them up?

If its only the rubber bung causing the problem, do what you like with it, its not important to the action or the fit of the spigot. If it is the male end that is on the big side, then the only solution is to sand it....with great caution though...the word "sand" you need to use fine emery paper and take great care not to take to much off.....the way to go is a couple of twists with the emery and then wipe and then test the fit, do that until your happy with the fit.
Before you do any of that though...take a cloth and wipe the inside of the female spigot...it may have a build up of carbon and be causing the problem.
Just to add the technique of sanding a male spigot is this.....wrap the emery paper around the area your going to sand, clasp it with your hand wrapped around and twist, this way you get an even take down and retain the shape of the spigot.....to sand back and forth along the length will never keep the shape and cause flat spots.
Good Luck.
Tom.

Clean ends in warm water and dry. if still not fitting gentle sand with wet & dry. each time cleaning and checking fit. don't go at it like a bull in a china shop as once its too loose its that way forever. remember the male should remain over an inch proud to allow for future wear and tear.
if too loose buy carbon spray.

why does yer last cast always take an hour?
