Wrasse Fishing??
Thinking of trying for some wrasse this weekend in a place iv heard is good for them have never caught one and was just wondering what would be the best tactics....float fish or on the bottom and baits. Also is it to early to try for them?

i'd stick to 1 hook until u know the ground u are fishin. good wrasse will power off when hooked and the last thing u need i a hook trailing behind them if venue is really snaggy.
use a size 1- 3/0 hook depending on size of fish expected and size of bait being used.
a simple rig made entirely from mono is best. use a rotten bottom. short snood of about 1' long or less allows u too react to takes quickly. use at least 20lb. mono for snoods. they can be caught and landed on less but fish can bite through lighter mono.
lug, rag and crab cocktail tipped with mackeral is lethal! however all will produce individually. fish close in, straight down often. be ready to strike and hit fish.

My top 3 wrasse baits would be 1) rag 2) small hard-back crabs, and 3) those wee snail-like shell fish you find around rock pools, etc.
Float-fishing is the most exciting way to fish for them in my opinion, and definitely the most tackle-friendly.
Bottom fishing for wrasse can be a costly venture, but well worth a go. Use rotten-bottom setups with a spark plug for your weight. As has been mentioned, you are often simply dropping your gear down right below your feet.
Bigger wrasse are a solitary and territorial fish, so if you are catching smaller fish, chances are that you will have to move to another spot if you're looking for a biggie.

Mr Green, sorry to tell you but its not a secret.
Fished there yesterday for them with no luck. Thing it might still be a little early.
James, I'm heading out at low tide on Saturday for rag. Let me know if you would like to come.
