salthill (opposite aquarium), april 4th 2007
People:me and fishingmidget (after midget left was joined by handbrake)
Duration:me 4pm - 11:20pm
Tide:high at 19:24
Weather:clear with northerly wind
Bait:mack, sandeel, squid
Rigs:pully and 2 hook scratcher
Results: a 3 bearded rockling and nearly a Heron
Catch and Release:: Yes
Report:well it was a nice day to be out fishing... met midget out by the aquarium and in between casting baits we were chucking leads( i managed 160yrds on midgets century with a 5oz) fished with midget till 9:30 ish (wasnt keeping track of time) and handbrake showed up within a minute of midget leaving...
continued fishing and still with no success.. even commented on birds flying low in the dark and would one tip the line to make the rod jump just to add some kind of excitement... then a minute later two heron's fly past and the second got caught in my line but thankfully managed to free its self within a few seconds... excitement over we decided to call it a night... it wasn't until i lifted my rig out of the water i noticed something sucking on the bait.
yup a 3 bearded rockling .. saved me from an embarrassing blank :D

Hi Steve was that thing the best you could manage guess the rest of the lads have nothing to fear from you this wknd
Jesus, that roadrunner fella has fierce cheek..... :D Suppose thats all you can expect from someone who measures his flats sideways..!! You would think he hadnt been out fishing at all last weekend given the absence of a report....
For the record, I fished Fanad with Danny on Saturday deeply hungover from the exertions of the previous night and still managed to catch more fish than him.... Exactly one more fish than him to be precise. As it was the only fish that day that meant Danny blanked.... :D On home turf..... :D In front of me..... :D
Oh yeah, can you guess what I caught?? One guess.... It was about 30cm, black backed, white lateral line, similar to a pollack.......
Steve, I look forward to doing battle again on Saturday, did you eat the rockling? You do look like Gollum BTW and I dont think you've shaved since Dunree.....
Fluff chucking is the new black..... Rampant Wreckfish is a fly angler in denial

Have you found the knack of catching coalies again Pete?? Pity it wasn't in a comp...
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Bradan wrote:Looking forward to it... lads I'm going for my first shore-caught ray so what rigs need tying - specifically snood breaking strain and hook size??
pulley rigs, one up one downs, heavy snoods 20-30lbs hooksize 1/0-3/0..
they might not have teeth as such.. but they will make a mess of snoods in no time at all...
aye..pete.. i bet you'll be catchin coalies down this end too
