fixed spool reels

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Lots to choose from, Diawa M cast range, Gruvell zeus B-RV, What ever you buy dont be afraid to spend as much as you would on a multiplier.

bought a shimano navi 8000 last year for when all is going against me with the multis, great little reel and not too expensive at 100euro, same technology as biomaster but no where near as dear

Really depends what you want it for.If it's for long range casting off the beach the penn surfmasters are great or if its for spinning there are plenty to choose from, I have a Grauvell Dakar v5000 and it works very well,no complaints.

options

#14 Post by kieran »

Okuma are a good value option, only one fault is that the winding arm can work loose on some models (a problem readily solved with a split ring!).

I have a Jaxon reel on test at the moment and it's not well... that good ahem... cough... splutter etc... a fair imitation of what the reel does!

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Emcasts are fairly bullet proof Fintan, nice reel although a little heavy. I have a Grauvell Zeus and its lovely, supplied with 3 spools too. Cant speak for its longevity though as I havent had it that long. Bearings seize and bits fall off cheap FS reels, pay the extra few quid for a decent one and you wont regret it.

Used these from shore and boat with mono and braid.
They take a lot of abuse

the last reel i got was a penn surfmaster 750. it did what it said on the tin but i didnt like the way the foot fitted in the reel seat of my penn vengeance bass rod - a small detail i know. al though these reels are new to the market i have heard a lot of complaints about the older models ie the "surfmaster 75" so only time will tell ps shakesphere now own penn!
