Fenit pier - tips

Hi,
for the past couple of weeks I am making my first steps in shore angling. I was trying to catch a fish in beach in SPA and Fenit Island strand. Alas always end up blank :(
I finally give up and in forthcoming days I will try to fish from Fenit pier. To be honest with you, this place doesn't look like anglers dream but may be at least I'll manage to catch a fish.

So, please give me a piece of advice about a rig and bite that would be suitable for that spot. In my previous sessions I was using two hooked flapper with 185g weight. As a bite I was using mackerel strips and sandeels. Do you think that I should use these at Fenit pier as well?

Welcome to the forum. just as you come into tralee, on your right hand side after the roundabout you will see some large units, one of them is called "Landers"
Go in there and look for Colm, he run's the fishing section.. there is nothing about fishing around fenit that he does not know.. he will give you all the information you need, sell you some good value tackle, and has a great bait supply.

give it three or four weeks and the pier should give up some ray. squid (whole) on pennel rigs.

How about some more tips? What weight will be most suitable for that spot? Is it low or high water mark?

Fenit eh? it is probably not fishing great at the moment with all the wind there is probably a large swell. Fenit fishes best when it is calm and the water is clear. definitely fishes better at night too. if you are determined to fish there get some lug worm and fish left hand side of the viaduct and you might get some flounder

if you can only get mackeral try close in around the head of the pier for conger or dogs

to be honest I'd only go fishing there at the moment if I just wanted to go fishing but couldn't be bothered going to a real fishing mark. you should really be trying the surf beaches

if you have a car you could try the Blackrock it is just beyond banna

terminal wise it is all 2 hook paternoster rigs and 4-6 oz grip leads.

I can imagine that. I was trying to avoid pier for the last 4 weeks, trying in SPA (two times) and Fenit Island strand (two times) but I always ended up blank, so I said to myself – I give up, I’m going to pier. ;)

Unfortunately I haven’t got a car here yet. I will bring it to Ireland in April, so to that time I can fish only in venues located within bikeable distance from Tralee. :(

I would give it a couple of more weeks and remember the SPA is only good at low tide.

Would you recommend any particular place in SPA? I was trying on the back of the tankard bar. I think that my greatest mistake was that I was trying during high water. But this was what 'others' told me - now I see that most of the places where I was trying to fish are low water marks.

hi Thomaszek, Have u tried Blennerville not far from tralee,easy access to the channel handy if u have no car.Fenit Pier quiet at the moment

I have this spot on my map but I didn't try it yet. If you think it is worth to try there I will go and try next weekend. You think it is better at the moment than pier? Shall I try at low or high water there?

Hi Fished there a few times ,mainly flatfish but a chance of an early bass i fish here on the rise , flats tend to move along the channel in stages with the tide so the fishing can bebusy then quiet but always the chance a few fish lug and mack worked for me on two hook flappers good luck hope the weather improves
