Try fishing velvet crab if targeting bass dogs are less keen on it than peeler, also try using live prawn when targeting ray its a killer.

#2 Post by k »

Very interested in the idea of using live prawns for ray but always wondered how to hook them so that they do not fly off

i hook them in the top of the tail and put a couple of turns of elastic on them keeps them on and they still have freedom to move.

Adrian - try tying a piece of manky mackerel, or any fish will do at a pinch, in the bottom of a drop net and lower it over the side of a pier or harbour wall, preferably close to low water, leave for five or ten minutes and haul up your prawns. Usually works a treat.
