captain AHAB wrote:beautiful fish and i suppose if hes to eat her then hes entitled to kill her, horrible bstard, but if i witnessed that savagery while fishing tope id definitely end up doin time :x

i find ahabs comments pretty funny.......all that C&R talk from a fella who picked his username to match a guy who spent his whole life chasing and trying to kill a whale    .

dont get me wrong, i'd like to think of myself as a C&R angler too but still have a load of mackerel in the freezer, as well as throwing lug to the slaughter last night by putting them on size 2's for coalies and rockling to munch on so in reality, im not.

you cant be a C&R angler when it suits, you either are or your not.

I would take Erics comments with a pinch of salt as usual he is just playing the "Devils Advocate" ...........

As others have stated he is young and will with time develop more mature opinions and views.

What disgusts me is the glee that the Children displayed at the kill. I have no problem with killing for food or with C&R BTW, each to their own.

personaly i couldnt care less about what you think of me, but how dare you patronise me and lower my opinions? do you think im a 5 year old? im 20 years old and im more than capable of forming a 'mature' and 'developed' view for myself, as you put it. what makes you so high and mighty as to degrade what i have said. devil's advocate can be defined as; 'One who argues against a cause or position, not as a committed opponent but simply for the sake of argument or to determine the validity of the cause or position'. i have made my feellings perfectly clear here or your too idiotic to see it.

'disgusts' is a subjective word like love, hate, beautifull, it is the individual who defines it, it is a matter of opinion and its not factual, ie different people have different opinions. these children have been brought up to understand that meat comes from a living animal. why should they be ostrasised from your convencial thinking and made to feel bad for doing so. as a child i would come home from a days fishing on dun laoghaire pier with my grandfather after catching dozen or so mackerel. the mackerel were dispatched, bagged and brought home to show my parents. i woud carry a massive grin on my face and not once did i feel pity for them, it gave me a strange feeling of satisfaction. i had won, i had outsmarted them. does this make me distgusting? was it ok because it was a mackerel and not a tope? a fish is fish at the end of the day.

Wow thanks for the definitions and the kind words.

I'll leave you with the final word.

not as a committed opponent but simply for the sake of argument

applause for reading something out of context. re-read my post, i defined the term 'devils advocate' so you woud not confuse a term with my actual standing. i am not arguing for the sake of arguing, i honestly disagree with you're opinion. donal asked us 'what we think of it', i replied.

Locking this now as it has gone into the usual load of crap that these type of post usually end up as.
I, as a Mod, am not taking sides.
It’s simply a case of I have a job to do to insure that post are kept on topic and when things start getting personal the best policy always is to lock things down and give poster a time to cool off.
