Whats this boat worth?

this is where we differ stan i would have any engine given a compreesion test before i went anywhere in it. and checked by my mechanic and also some of the newer engines are more troublesome than there older counterparts. to many different quirks just to get that extra knot i know guys with engines 30 yrs on there boat and wouldent swap you for a new one

ya have to shop around shamoo he,s asking far to much for that boat,as for the engine looks good but that,s only looks,you,ll havta get a test on it,,two,or two n a half grand i,d say,,,,,i picked up a nice 19ft wilson flyer for 3500 with a 40 mariner two years ago,,,,never hada bit ov bother with the engine,, try talk him down abit !!!! the engine,s more important than the boat !!

So I guess the moral of the story thus far is...........its hugely based on a matter of opinion.

Now this is how I see it.

I'll be travelling fron Ireland to the UK to view/test a boat.

Based on that, I "presume" I'd be better going for a package that has a newer engine that in "theory" has less likely hood of being bogey.

I accept the comments that an old, well run, well serviced engine may be a safe bet, but surely if I'm buying fairy blind, ie only getting a water test of around an hour, I'd not be too sure its a reliable outfit or not.

Whereas if I buy a fairly modern engine, it cant be that bad surely, irrespective of a lack of use.

Lets be frank lads, who spends all that money on a modern 40-60hp outboard and doesnt use it..the've all had a bit of use surely.

That is a very common misconception people buying second hand boats have Unless you strip down and rebuild an engine you have no definite way of knowing it's true condition and no vendor will allow you to do that. Always budget for engine repair/replacement just because it goes like a clock today doesn't mean it will not go bang tomorrow and after the winter we just had this is equally true of a newer model so don't rush in to anything. Remember an hour old engine could have been under water


Personally I would avoid looking on e-bay and I would strongly recommend you look at several boats before you take the plunge

also at the moment the irish boats are better value when you take the exchange rate, fares on the boat, plus the amount of driving i used 150 pounds driving for 2 days looking at boats and then the long haul back towing the boat to the ferry
that took 11 hrs from brightlingsea to holyhead dont think id do it again when i was buying boats were very pricey here
so thats what brought me across to england but looking at the market now there is some decent boats to be got here
