Licence

#21 Post by padge73 »

I think that's a fair point Cazz, I certainly would be willing to pay for a license to fish. I also bumped into the same three french men, who guaranteed me they had returned the fish, by that they obviously meant returned them to the fridge not the sea!!! On the subject of nets I am out and about alot and have come across one or two very suspect ropes etc.. I will not mention where as I like many others keep these marks to myself, but any info on what illegal nets will look like would be much appreciated because at least then when I spot them I can report them. I do however feel that Jim is right we need to act responsibly, If you have ever caught a fish of 10lb then that fish has been on this planet for thirty years if not longer, that's as long as I have been around.. Seriously think about it. I am no saint I have killed fish in the past but when faced with the information at hand and when I became passionate about the sport it is simply a matter of mathematics, if things continue as they are then the fish will be wiped out, no if's and's or buts.... There is no feeling in the world like the that of the hit from a big bass on light tackle, the sheer excitement and thinking that we could destroy this simply through inability to act sensibly..

In a country where we ignore our fishing bye-laws, illegal fishing is rife and killing the limit could be perceived as the norm why would you expect foreign anglers to behave any differently? Shifting the focus serves no purpose other than dissolving the issue.

Is it not simply possible to, as they say 'limit your kill'?

why is it two bass a day just out of intrest? why not one?

you cant eat more than one bass a day, and that means it would be 330(ish) or so fish a year per angler instead of 660(ish).

I agree too but fishing the south coast of ireland for many years now , and over the years hearing and in cases verbal comfirmation of big hauls of bass to nets men of up to 60 boxes of fish in one tide but to be fair to all in this thread these reports came 2 to 5 years ago but my personal rod and line fishing as far as quality and quantity over the past two years has improved , last year i ended up with 418 bass all returned bar one which was badly hooked and a very good average size to all the fish landed , certainly breeders,,,,
so ,is there an infinate supply of bass? , do they recover quicker than we all anticipate i dont think anyone knows, but one thing i do know on returning to favourite marks year after year inspite of all the nets, arguments of retention , visiting and local anglers taking fish away all the backbiting the Bass come back more than the year before,,
this fact has not only confused me at the same time is quite astonishing ,
so i feel its not that simple, but yet i feel within myself that as a very passonate bass angler i do more than my fair share of conservation along these shores by interacting with the fisheries board baliffs which,i have no bones to bare have led to confiscation of nets, cars, andboats leading to prosicution ,,so when i say my fishing has improved and in my area for other bass anglers too blame me!!!!!!! WE ARE WATCHING YOU

I couldn't agree more Sonaghan. Personally I feel the commercial sector has a very bad record with bycatch dumping and such, so Personally I never buy fish (with the exception of the odd chippie) I wan't to contribute as little as possible of my hard earned cash a sector, that in my opinion will wipe angling long before any angler does.

The C&R debate has come up time and time again lads, so let not start it up every time there is a picture of a Bass taken for the table...
