Cork Beach 10/09/07

#1 Post by thescotsman »

People: Me, Pete, Donal, my dad and my sister

Duration: 20:30 22:30

Tide: LW 00:19

Weather: calm, tiny drizzle

Bait: razor, mack, crabs, sandeel

Rigs: 3 hook flapper, 2 hook flapper, single hook clip downs

Results: 1 Doggie and 1 strap conger to Pete

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:

After the past two days of good fishing at this mark, think we all thought it was a good idea to head down again and see what was about, but what a difference a day makes.

The calm conditions didn't bode well, but knowing that Pete had got a few the night before in relatively calm conditions gave us a bit of hope, so soon after half eight seven rods were fishing the beach.

So little action ensued, that at one point we were all clustered together watching my sisters rod nod almost imperceptibly in the hope it was a fish (it wasn't). She got a good bite on her last cast (with some of Donals crab), but no fish and that was the sum total of action down our end, apart from a moment of excitment when the rod stand collapsed and we hurriedly checked which rod had brought it down (bass or ray we thought!). Soon found out it was a big clump of weed on my dads rod dragging down the beach.

Donal faired in the same way as us, but Pete still managed to winkle out a couple of fish to put us to shame. Sure he'll be along later to tell you how he did it, despite the attentions of the seemingly resident hungry fox.

Quiet evening but it sure as hell beat sitting in the house with the in-laws..... :lol: Small crab baits wellied out as far as was possible accounted for the doggie and the strap.

The funniest part of the evening was when scanning my rod tips from Donals peg, I caught sight of a pair of eyes looking at me (bout 25 yards away). A closer look revealed a fox, hell bent on getting its head in my bait bucket. A couple of (poorly thrown) stones made there way over to it at which point Basil, instead of running in terror ambled over to them to have a sniff.... As I made my way over to rescue my bait, Basil sat there looking at me until I was about 5 yards away before deciding to slowly amble off with not a bit of fear on him.... Having seen my throwing ability or lack thereof he'd obviously decided that I was no threat to him... :lol: Nice to get up close to an animal like that but leave my bloody bait alone!!

Chip shop was inexplicably closed at 10.55 so a quick tour around Kinsale was made in order to finish off the night on a full tummy. Success, as we now have an alternative chippy for the later trips :wink:

Know what Lee, I don't care.... :lol: If it saves me from having to try and make small talk and appreciative noises whilst chowing down on a dish of apricots, cinnamon, carrots, onion and chicken then it will be worth the fall out.... :lol:
