People: Me and my dad

Duration: 18:30-21:30

Tide: falling (HW around 18:00 I think)

Weather: slight southerly wind, very occasional drizzle

Bait: razor (and unused mackerel)

Rigs: single hook pulley, 2 hook flappers (2s and 2/0s)

Results: 4 bass (3 to me, one to dad - his first), 1 coalie

Catch and Release:: 1 bass for dinner

Report:

Parents over visiting, so decided to take my dad to catch a bass. Got down to usual spot while it was still light so dad could get to grips with his new rod and reel. Both our first casts were a disaster as almost immediately the lines were dragged off by weed, dad lost his tackle, I managed to salvage mine with a bit of judicious wading, and retrieved dad's as well as it had ended up in the same clump of weed as mine...
A move 50yds further up the beach saw us pretty weed free and we got settled in.
First two fish were mine, small schoolie bass at somewhere between 20.00 and 20.30, both fairly close in (maybe 40yds).
Had a cast off dad's new 525 loaded with braid and managed to nest it, he'd been doing alright with it and he only fishes very rarely these days.
Handed him my rod and I used my old spare, with taped up rings and a dodgy reel.
Anyway, soon after I got another bass (close to 4lbs I guess) again close in. Dad got a a knock followed by a good take a minute later and he landed a similar size fish to mine - his just edging it being slightly longer and deeper. He was delighted with his first bass anyway and we took it back for dinner last night.
Got a coalie then after that. Went quiet then after that and we headed home for some food.
Great to get a result like that for my dad. That bit of surf makes all the difference down there.

Good session there scotsman...did you get all the bass on razor?

All the bass came to razor. Been converted to it this year by petekd. Saves me digging lug for a start. It's a hardy bait and you can refreeze it (all those bass were taken on refrozen razor) and you'd pick up other stuff on it as well (I've had dogs, coalies, dab and flounder on it). Seems to need a bit of a wave to bring out the best of it though, certainly where I've been using it anyway.

Nice one Lee. Its great having a bait that virtually every tackle shop sells and it doesn't really matter what condition its in. I fished the same beach last night, report up also.

I've had the exact same experience with it...always fishes well in a good surf..if the SW west picks up tomorrow, I'll be using it again!

Yes think they liked it (I don't eat fish - go figure??), but my mum still prefers a flat or an Arbroath smokie - there's no pleasing some people!
