Problem with penn mag reels

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Problem with penn mag reels

#1 Post by nthclare »

Has anyone had any problems with the penn mag 525s ?

I have to send 3 back to get completley new frames it costs around 38 sterling each to get em replaced and rebuilt but thats cheaper than getting 3 new reels.

I was talking to the guy who looks after the 525 mags in Scotland and he said its unusual to have all 3 of them cracked to this day I dont know how they cracked.

As two of em were only used a few times its worth getting the part replaced and they all have abec bearings so they should be fine.

I have a couple of them and have never had any problems with mine, sounds like they have been dropped or something

Maybe they took a bang without you knowing... These are a very tough reel. I have 3 myself and never had any problems.

A mate's 525 has a cracked frame, I cheched it over for any other signs of damage from being dropped etc. but could find none.

Have had my 525 for a few years now and no problems with it, friends are still using ones bought when they first came out so it's safe to say that problems like these are rare.
