whitewater, malahide marina, 27/9/7

#1 Post by jw »

People: Donogh JW

Duration: 10:30-15:30

Tide: big spring full at 12:30

Weather: ne F4-F5

Bait: rag

Rigs: sabikis, hookais, tope rig

Results: 3 tiny whiting and 1 mackerel

Report:

It was going to be the last trip of the year before winter lift out. Two slightly hung over boys finally met on the pontoons at 10:30. The biggest tide of the year was running up the irish sea against a stiff NE. Even with 2 fleeces on it was cold. It was a considerable feat of seamanship to get the traditional sausages cooked and eaten then we started to feel better.
Headed for the shelter of lambay island, and spent a good bit of time watching the male grey seals fighting for precedence over the females. Spectacular noise and show.
Managed eventually to get surely the last irish sea mackerel of the year and a few small whiting.

Put out a tope rig baited with our only mackerel flapper for a while, then headed for home and the end of the season.
