travel rod?

hi all.

i am looking for a trigger grip 4-5 piece spinning rod no more than 10 feet long. around 8-9ft would be great. casting up to about 3oz. will be paired with an abu revo. also it has to be tough as it will be bieng brought into school :lol:

does such a rod exist?

What purpose of the rods specifically???Spinning???Plugging???General all rounder...tossing bait with light weight...spinner....plugger....floater??I am asking because if the rod intended to use for plug and spinner.....3 oz is way too much....it will be hard for u to load the rod to cast plug a decent distance.The heviest plug that i have is a 25g(7/8 oz) and i am still dont like the feel of casting it ,too stiff and hard to load....if whack a little bit with force will result in jerky cast and a city of birdie with my 20-60g 11 footer with a baitcaster.Its a decent rods,but i feel like there not much use of it for my lure fishing other than for pier and light bait fishing for bass.Before getting one....u must know the weight of the lure that u want to use.Most lure rods come with minimum and maximum lure weight/casting weight.If it not intended to use for plug and spinner than 3oz max is ok.

As for the 3 pcs.....its very hard to get in the range of 8-9 footer.Most of them are in range of 6-7 footer.

Design by Lefty Kreh....i currently use their 7 footer range.But again the casting range maybe still out of the spec that u want.

Albright series is nice....but again the casting range is out of your spec and a bit expensive.

G-Loomis have range of 8 footer,but again the casting range is out of your spec and expensive.

They do the rods to your spec...but its too expensive.
The last option is to custom build one with the local rod builder.Theres a few company that sell blank which u can order in multi piece like :

Which then u can build one or ask your local builder to build one for you.If i have money....i will get the blank and build one myself or ask the local builder to build one rather than getting it build by travel rods or getting a loomis.

well i really want it for lures/plugs/spinners up to about 40 grams. but i also want to be able to lob out bait with it. also 3pce is a bit big. a 4pce would be better

The off shore angler ocean master have one with 1-4 oz casting range.....but in 7 foot....u can get the 1-3oz,8-9 footer....but in 2 pcs ....try google muskie rods or salmon steelhead rods.....most of them are 8-9 footer and have a heavy casting range...but unfortunately mostly in 2 pcs....

It's very compact and comes with the hard case. I've used it a few times and it seems fine. I'm bringing it to the Mediterranean on Friday for 2 weeks. I'll let you know how it goes if you want to wait...

Yeah...thats look nice....get that one...strip the handle...put in the trigger reel seat.....and u have to change the guide too....but the important things is the 6 pcs blank....others is just component and cosmetic...accept the guide....

you basically want to put it into your school bag without it being noticed and pop out on the lunch break to go for mullet, mackerel and bass(as if that will ever happen in galway)..

that looks great inigo. how heavy is it? i will buy it anyway but i do like light rods. am not expecting it to be that light as the amount of carbon needed will make it heavy.

both 11 footer....both are 4 pcs....20g-60g and 15g-35g...

Sorry for the delay. I only came back to Ireland last night. I don't know the exact weight of the rod but I'd say it's pretty light. Only the end of the handle broke unexpectedly when casting on my first day. It was nothing outside the rod's casting range... I can still use it but it's kind of awkward now and a little unbalanced. Just thought I'd let you know if you haven't bought it yet.

What about the Shimano STC range? I picked up a 9'/8' Beastmaster STC (15-40g) from Veals a few weeks back as a backup / travel rod. I cant remember remember how much it worked out at but it wasn't too expensive, actually I think it was on sale. It was a bit of an impulse buy I must admit, went on to buy one rod and ended up buying two but I'm very happy with it so far. It's a five piece and comes in a hard travel case. It doesn't have a trigger grip though but some of the other models in the range might.

needs to be smaller......i was looking at the speedmaster range alright as they come in 6 pieces and have a cool handle.

No offense to any SHIMANO man out there...but careful with shimano travel rods tho....if i'm not mistaken the STC range....ritchie broke one of his....i know a few guys that had their STC tip broken a few times on casting with the weight in the range of what stated on the rods.....they use to be in my list...but after a few bad review and report i just cancel them from my list...
