Hi
New kit just arrived, itching to get a go with it, just wondering what all you match anglers with experience of these longer rods would recommend in terms of reel, line, and terminal tackle.
Was thinking in terms of a multiplier, 15 lb main line, 60 lbs shock leader and finally getting to grips with some longer traces and snoods...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...
2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Kieran,
How about a Penn Surfmaster 850 with Braid? Bite detection would be absolutely immense!
As long as you're fishing clean ground 14lb Sakuma Night Crystal would be an option for you too?
My experiance with Long Rods is you don't need 6oz to Cast a Long, Long way, Try 4oz + 5oz, try using those Pear Shaped impact Flattie leads or watch leads to give the bait a bit of movement. 4 or 5oz should load the rod up just fine, so a Lighter Shockleader (40/50lb) should be fine, I obviously don't have to tell you if you're fishing Beaches use Clear Shockleader.
As for Rigs on beaches I prefer a 2up1down, Millenium Style with size 4 - 1 Hooks (Really interested in the Mini Manta's atm :? ).
But anyway don't be afraid to experiment with Snood Lengths on Such A Rig, Maybe have the snoods on the Top 2 Hooks around 50cm a piece, then have your One Down (with the Cascade on it) Around 60cm Long?
Another Favourite of mine for fishing Long Snoods 3 Up is, using 15cm Gemini Clip down Booms (with SRT) , Leaving maybe 50cm down to an ABC (Alpha Bait Clip) and repeating that Process 3 Times. I tend to Bling these Rigs up as much as possible to attract inquisitive Flatties.
I'm sure the match boys will probably correct me on a few things, But generally I think these Big toys are designed to fish light, and specifically for the match Anglers. I used to Fish with Longs K2s but due to being completely novice at the time I didn't get all I could have out of them, but if the Triplex is anything like them an overhead Lob will sure you out with whatever distance you need.
