Ok, Has anyone used this Rig that Goldsy has featured in the October edition of Sea Angler?
Looks the Biz for fishing Baits over a Wide Area...

wat you mean by that gazo ??? i think its a bit too messy to be honest !!! there is no need to make that just keep everything plain and simple !! you could make a trace exactly like that without being that compicated !!

far too complicated for me, takes long enough getting a normal trace unravelled on a gale swept beach, never mind a 30 foot long one with all that gear!

its actually not that complicated, instead of using the mag's complicated system i just used a bait clip. the split ring moves through the oval link and back up to the bait clip folding the line in two, don't power cast it as it pulls the bait clip down. and what i meant by all you catch is mackerel and flats is because thats all ive caught on it!, theres very few gars up here anymore :cry: but you're right i feel its a waste of time, it would probably be easier just to use a flier with a float on it.

That particular rig was developed for the World Championships in Portugal in 1999....the reason for it was to be able to catch surface species like Garfish and Mackerel (they were allowed) while still able to catch bottom feeders........it works well if used at the right time and place (like most rigs) but its not a magic mojo by any means.

A flying collar rig would be better for the purpose, with or without a float but only if its in the rules and it wasn't in 1999

so Tom you saying its better to use a two hook rig and a flyer, instead of the split rig?

I would think so and so would Goldsy, either with or without a float they allow you to fish nearer the surface in any depth of water, plus its a lot less hassle to cast a 2 hook and add the flyer than it is to cast a folded up trace.

ok i've come up with an idea to make it easier to make, on your rig body tie an upside down gemini lead clip on the top piece where the single snood is, the tie about 10ft of line o the clip to this tie a strong swivel then tie a two hook flapper to this. to fold the rig simply lift the swivel onto the lead clip and clip it on, and its done

had mackeral and pollack on it when fishing for one off big flounder. in saying that i make mine to suit the venue using the basic principle. i could have used a 2 hook float rig and fished one of the hooks up in the water and one just trailing the bottom. have a think about what you will be doing. nothing is set in stone and all anglers have there own way of doing things. it is worth having a few at certain times. the exact one mentioned in the mag i would hardly ever need, but that's just me. i still think it is a brilliant idea.
