Report:Arrived a bit later than planned in Union Hall and met with Donal. Got the gear on board and headed out. Went in behind Adam Island looking for mackeral for bait, and to keep a few for the Cork Harbour Comp. the following day. Began the drift and, after a slow start, began to catch. The mackeral were confined to a small area and we had to motor up tide and begin a new drift a couple of times before we had enough of them.

We then headed out to a mark about 2/3 of the way to the Galley. Positioning the boat at the head of the reef we started fishing. Almost at once Don was in - a nice codling. He hit a few wrasse then and a pollock, while I blanked. The current and wind were moving us along at about 2 knots so before long we were off the reef. Being new to the area I was unsure how to get the best of the drift and we seemed to spend a lot of time moving back to the head of the reef.

Anyway, Don continued to catch Wrasse - cookoo and (we thought) corkwing. But looking at pictures earlier I don't believe they were corkwing. These fish were a bright pink with black markings to the rear.

During one of the drifts, I broke my duck with a decent pollock and then a wrasse. The wind had risen as the afternoon progressed and we headed for port about 6:00-6:15.

A good day which I hope to repeat once or twice before the season ends.
