I am thinking of buying a gps for my boat
Can anyone recommend a cheap one
It would only be used for fishing close to shore, maybe 2 miles offshore at most.
Has anyone tried the handheld ones, Are they any good
Thanx EDDIE
On our boat we use a Lowrance M52 its a combined sounder and chart plotter.
You cannot load maps into it but you can mark waypoints and program it with GPS co-ords of wrecks, marks etc.
have a handheld garmin gps72, very happy with it so far. we wanted one not just for the boat (we got a marine mount with it) but also one we could take for pike fishing onto our small boat and for shore marks.
havent found it too heavy on the batteries so far, takes aa bateries and we picked up a set of four rechargables and a charger for €25, so far after three trips and about 14 hours use its still on hte first set.
basic enough model but cheap and does everything we needed (mark inputting, speed, heading, anchor drag alarm, track storage, basic map etc)
