Dalkey Island

#1 Post by dillon_the_rabbit »

People:Me, Myself and I

Duration:3 hours

Tide: rising, high water and dropping

Weather:Calm, warm

Bait:Feathers and mackeral

Rigs:Feathers and standard running rig

Results:4 macks 2 doggies

Report:Yay I finally get to make a boat report :D This was my first time out in my little boat, and chose to fish out of Dalkey drifting near the island. Caught 4 macks on the feathers, then switch to static fishing on the bottom near Dalkey Island. Lost a very good fish felt like a tope, took about 60 yards of line before biting me off, then caught 2 doggies in quick succession, then nothing. The weather was perfect for boat fishing, calm seas and warm.

Cheers
Matt

Evening

I was fishing about 40-50 yards in front of the island, just drifting from the northerly point down to the end of the island, motor back up and do it again.

I intend to try for the tope myself, I have been told that a few frequent the area around the islands, and while not very big, they do provide a fantastic fight on the lighter gear.

I would also like to try for smuts or spurdogs at some stage, are these caught around Dalkey, or would I be better moving down to maybe bray or greystones?

Cheers
