Fishing Holiday

#1 Post by adam.urwin »

Hi, I've been in Ireland for 7 years and recently got into shore fishing. I've 1 weeks hols booked from work at the start of October and 1 at the start of Novemebr. Got all the requisite gear including tent if I need it! Was wondering if you could help me out with good locations where the accomodation is very close to the fishing as I sold my car recently. Thanks

Hello Adam,
That sounds a bit tricky, especially without a car. The season's getting late and therefore the variety of fish to target with a good chance of success is less.

You could aim for Cork City, with the possibility of getting a bus to Monkstown or to other marks around Cork Harbour (e.g train to Cobh).
Also if you're near a city like Cork there's bus transport available to towns with fishing possibilities close 'Main St.' (Youghal, Ballycotton, Kinsale, Courtmacsherry, Roscarberry..... )

I did see a good place to pitch a tent down near Crookhaven (VERY West Cork). Next door was a beach and rock marks that I'm sure produce fish. Close to here also is Barleycove and other known marks (see Central Fisheries Board website cfb.ie for good maps)
However if you have pitched your tent here and a gale whips up don't hold me responsible for just (if you're lucky) losing a night's sleep  .

Galway City probably offers similar possibilities.

Not sure if any good marks in Kerry are easy to access by public transport and shank's mare.

It would be impossible to depend on being able to fish exposed marks due to unpredictable weather and swell conditions, therefore aim for sheltered marks away from the raw Atlantic.

That's all I can tell ya

Blackie

PS Only just spotted that you've a week at the start of Oct as well as Nov, weather etc. should be that bit kinder so more options available, as others may point you to

thanks mate. Was looking at Valentia Island. Knightstown end. I was there last year with my ex and didn't get any fishing in. It's possible to stay right on the water and there looks to be a good few likely marks in the area. Does anyone know any? PM with the replies if you want to keep them on the qt!
