does anyone know why whiting only seem to feed after dark?

i think the main reason why whiting don't go out during the day is that they don't like cormorants! or predators for the matter, you find their easy to bag up during the day on a boat, so time of day is not an issue.

i have had loads of whiting during the day, they do feed alot more in the winter months during the night

i've found they will feed in daylight as long as you have the right conditions. if its quite a rough day and there is plenty of colour in the tide then they will feed quite happily. if its calm conditions and the water is clear then forget about it.

ya i agree, if the water is murkey you will get them and in daylight on a boat! but its just unusual, when we fish in salthill, we would not get one all day but the minute it gets dark we get them after the bait being in the water for less then a minute!!
