A bit of a pain of a trip as some eejit had seen fit to drop a large mooring block (tractor wheel filled with concrete) complete with ropes, buoys etc, right at the bottom of the slip.... Couple that with a narrow slip that was in the process of drying out and hordes of tourists around and life was a little awkward. Main reason for the trip was to fill a box of mackerel but unfortunately they were very thin on the ground. Managed a few however and picked up some decent pollack in tight to the Sovereigns. Tommy managed to hook a few herring on the drift also. The little nephew however stole the show by managing to catch his first few fish on his first trip out in the boat which was nice. A cleverly administered Stugeron tablet 2 hours prior to setting out meant he had his happy little head on and you want to see the grin on his face when I let him "drive" us all home.... Uneventful really aside from that, shame the mackerel werent there in numbers as I have a freezer to fill for the winter bait stocks but sure we will try again in the near future.

you could always risk the bad luck and change the name!

we were out on the east coast yesterday and the macks were everywhere, could have filled twenty boxes but we stuck to about 30 macks on sabikis and flashers.

trouble was when we anchored they started hitting huss and ray baits. we even had one of two pounds on half a side of joey.

ah its only bad luck when you change the name and dont keep a memento with the original name on it aboard..(have been told even a photo of the boat with the name showing is enough)

Buying a decent engine managed to solve most of the old boat problems Steve. You cant account for key dropping incidents ever reoccurring though...........

if you want sell me the boat for a very, very , very cheap price and i'll change the name, you can just upgrade and name your new boat, not a bad idea, so what do you think?

For the first time ever, and on boat number 4 at this stage, I finally have a boat I trust..... So in answer, MC.....NOPE! However, if things go really well and I eventually manage to put in an order for a warrior, I'll let you know...

Hi Adam, given up on the pursuit of speed this year, I have an Orkney Longliner 16' with a 2 year old 4 stroke Honda 15hp on the back of her. Fastest ever was 12 knots with 2 aboard but that was running with the tide. Most of the time I keep her at about 9 which is half throttle as there is very little discernible difference in speed for pushing her through the floor. Engine was a little lumpy when first tried out but a minor adjustment on the idle speed setting fixed that. No major problems so far at all. Nice wee boat and very sea worthy although I had one minor scare sitting beam on to a giant wake from a tanker while drifting that I only just got the nose of her round and into in time...
