Grit trapped in Water Out port of cooling system

#1 Post by trevt »

Hi Folks,

Noticed a small piece of grit lodged in the out port of the water cooling system on our Suzuki DF55. What is the best way to try and remove this?
Water is still being ejected but I think this defo needs to be removed.

Cheers,
Trev

Trev,
I had the same problem and ran some 100lb mono through it, worked a treat.

You could try back flushing the water out let port , we have to do it quite often with our mercury outboard on the work boat ,due to running in shallow water we draw up all sorts of rubbish .
Basically you attach a garden hose to your outlet port and let the water run back through the engine and out through the intake ,this should remove any debris .
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Hi Ronald,

We usually flush after every trip anyway :) but the piece of grit was slightly bigger than the out port exit hole.

Tried Conor's suggestion and it worked a treat to dislodge the piece of grit.

Actually Ronald,

Just re-read your post and we haven't tried that. I understand what you mean now. Will try your method if this happens again.

Cheers,
