Co.Down mullet mark

#1 Post by Ronald »

People:Me

Duration:5hrs

Tide:low to high

Weather:bright and sunny for a change.

Bait:Bread

Rigs:float

Results:1 fish landed ,1 lost and countless missed :oops:

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report:I managed a day of mid week again so i took myself of for a bit of mullet fishing as bait was hard to come by due to the small tides .
Arrived at the mark to find nothing moving and the water was clear enoughto see that there were no fish around ,Ihung around for an hour hoping something might put in an appearance but nothing showed so I took a bit of a wander around the area ,about half an hour later i spotted a few fish moving around the edge of a sand bank so crept along close enoughto get close enough to throw a few bits of bread out and could see the fish start to feed on them .
Quickly baited up and sent the float 10 feet up tide of the fish ,first few passes resulted in missed bites ,at this point davy phoned to see how i was getting on so i quickly updates him then got back to fishing ,next drift Icould see the fish moving in on the bread then Iwatched as it sucked the bread in ,a quick strike and i was in to a solid weight which took of scaring the **** out of the rest of the shoal ,I could do nothing with the fish except hang on and hope it didn't run to far down the channel ,after a couple of minutes and still making no head way I decided to give davy a quick call to give him the good news and a live commentry of the fight :lol: .
after about 10 mins I was able to slide the fish over the net and as soon as i saw it i knew it was a specimen ,by this stage a few tourists had ventured over to see what the commution was about so i handed one of them my camera and got a couple of shots before weighing,measuring and more Id shots ,then held the mullet in the water until he was ready to power of ,it came in at 5lb 10oz ,my first mullet of the year .
I up sticks and made a move to another spot near by and missed a clatter of fish and briefly had one on before losing it but i didn't really care ,One good fish had made my day .

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

If only I could land of them ,would make my year ,though a big wrasse might be better :lol: as for mullet ,I might stop fishing for them now this year so i can keep my average weight of mullet landed up :wink:
