Report:Some of my mates where heading down to Baltimore for a weekends boat fishing so i headed down to get some shore fishing done.
DAY ONE,4hrs
I drove through the night and arrived down at my first rock mark at 6am and was fishing by 7:15am.Third cast produced a nice wee bass of 2.5lb,taken on a kilty lure. The next hour and a half i missed four more bass and landed two of 1.5lb and 3lb 1oz,a PB by 1oz.It went very quite once the tide was dropping and i headed for my next mark after half an hour. What a start to my weekend,2hrs fishing and three bass.
The next mark was only 20 mins away so when i arrived i had a kip while i waited for the tide to drop. There was a lot of weed in the water but luckily it was close in to the rocks. The first 20 mins was quiet then i hooked a bass of about 2lb but it came of,but it gave me hope so i didn`t mind(too much).During the next hour or so i lost another fish and had 8 bass to about 5lb follow my lures but i didn`t catch any, then it went quiet again and i decided it was time to head to my b&b in Baltimore and wait for my mates to get in from the boat, and get some much needed sleep.
DAY TWO,5-6hrs
The weather was horrible today and i couldn`t get to fish the beacon for wrasse so i headed for Lough Hyne where i knew it would be sheltered.I found a spot under the trees where i could cast into the deep trench on the western shore of the lough.I baited up the bass rod with mack/squid on a pulley rig and chucked it about 70 yards out which put me into 60 foot + of water.I then put out the pike rod with a two hook flapper baited with lug and rag tipped with squid.First cast on the bass rod i had a couple of good bites but the fish never came back(it mustn`t have liked the taste of my very old mack)Nothing happened for an hour apart from my baits being stripped by the thousands of shrimps out on the bottom. Then i baited up both rods and whacked them out again.I had a small bite on the pike rod but i thought it was the shrimps so i left it for a while and went back to the car to get my mini rod so i could fish for the little gobys that were eating the scraps of bait i had thrown in close.I was hoping they were the red mouthed gobys that were in the lough. When i got back i decided to re-bait the bass and pike rods and when i reeled in the pike rod had a tiny fish on the top hook.I thought it was a rock goby but on closer inspection i realised it was a black goby which is a new species for me.It was very quiet on the bigger rods after that and the only fish i had was two rock gobys on the mini rod,the red mouthed goby would have to wait until next time.
DAY THREE,7hrs
I headed for the rocks where i had three bass on the first day hoping for a repeat performance, but by the time i got there the tide was getting ready to go out.I chucked nearly every lure i had for an hour then switched back to my lucky kilty lure and finally got a hit which resulted in a bass of 2.6lb.Nothing after that so i moved to my second mark but it was covered in weed and was impossible to fish so i headed for Rosscarbery to see if there was many mullet around.
There was plenty movement so i had started to groundbait when another mullet nut came along and started to get set-up.I went over to see if he could give me any tips on fishing here and he invited me to join him.Happy days my own guide for the day! We got talking and he(Mark) was telling me he fishes here for mullet all the time and his biggest from here was over 7lb! We set our gear up and groundbaited at his favourite spot and the mullet where on the bread quickly.Fifteen minutes had past when a mullet came charging at my float and shot straight back down, my float disapeared under as it picked my bread up from the bottom. When i struck it took three huge runs and ended up over 50 yards away.It was a fantastic fight and i had to walk it along to a lower part of the wall so Mark could net it,but the fish wasn`t having any of it.Mark was almost hanging by his feet but managed to get it in the net first go.My first mullet from Rosscarbery and it bounced the scales round to a very nice 4.25lb.We saw fish around the 8lb mark but apart from a few missed bites we had no more action.
DAY FOUR,3hrs
My last few hours before i had to head back home were spent at the rock rock mark i had all of my bass.I put a two hook flapper rig out on the bottom using what used to be lovely fresh rag and squid, then i started chucking lures hoping to finish the weekend with a bass or two.Not a single touch in 3hrs and unfortunatley i had to pack up and start the long journey home.
Even though the weather wasn`t great i still had a good time and i def be back especially for those huge Rosscarbery mullet.

Nice report Davy, nice to get into a few fish early doors. Here, I was talking to a chap who claimed you were using underhand tactics and trying to do him out of 5ozs on a Tadpole fish..... He reckoned it was a bit of sour grapes as you were jealous of his and Ronalds achievements, him (Ronald) being the better angler and all..... :D
Might have been told to mention all that next chance I got from a LADSAC member....... :D

Sorry about that Davy, had to get it in while it was still fresh in my mind.... :D Think he did fairly well actually. Had 100 in 1st session, 28 in his second, cant remember what he had session 3 and session 4 I think he was pipped by a point to winning it. Probably ended up with about the 300 mark which would have stood him into the top 20 I guess.

Now dont knock him Davy ,he does get his fair share of decent fish . Have to say though he is better know as decibel dave due to the amount of laughing he does ,especially when he is hooked into a decent fish ,he would put john wilson to shame .
BY THE WAY nice fishing davy ,I just wish i could have gotten down but work said otherwise

If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.
