Out door aquarium lol

#1 Post by nthclare »

Has anyone found any marks that they fished which they will never share due to the place being taken over or over fished.

My friend goes kayaking and snorkeling so has a lot of access to good bays coves and lagoons but he was on to me about a mark which involves a lot of walking and off the beating track for the last 2 years he was asking me to fish it as he seen every type of fish there you could think of that swims off the west coast of clare .

We went down there yesterday and it blew me away its like an out door aquarium bursting with bull huss dogs conger pollock must be around 15lbs weight in there giant mullet sting ray cruising around mackerel shoals coming in and out every so often it was like a day out feeding ducks lol i spent an hour cutting up frozen mackerel feeding the fish id say its like what the marks were like during the 60s not overfished and not exploited.

I put on a big bait and chucked it out and had a run hooked him and the line just went and went till he spat the hook must have been a tope or something.

We shared a small trout fly rod for the eve catching mackerel and and the polock were too big for it kept smashing the leader.

Well is there many marks around the other areas which you guys keep to your selves as its nice to know there is still marks which are precious .

Not yet, but if anyone knows any nice quiet marks in Cork I'd love if you would PM me.

When I was a child and lived in Bray (which was about 15 years ago) myself and a friend discovered a great mark around the side of Bray head. It was a large, very sheltered rock/concrete platform... Lots of good sized wrasse, dogs, whiting and pollock...think we only used lug back then.

So if anyone knows a quiet mark in Cork like the one above, let me know.

Sounds like a special spot Neilus, not too many left these days.

Have a little corner of Donegal that produces some lovely plaice and turbot. Two of us found it three years ago and has given us some quality sport, bit hairy to get down too(need a rope) but lovely and secluded. Commercials can't get into it either. Secrecy pact signed between me and the mate
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
Fresh Water (2) brown trout, sea trout

Neilus,

I'd be on any time you want to fish it.

I know Neilus and his mate from club fishing for a few years and there not full of BS.

Ah Neilus is only spoofin, he rang me Saturday all talk about this new secret venue. He dragged me out there Sunday only to be greeted by a very angry sea and no fish. he almost got me killed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one hell of a dangerous spot, a monster swell rolling up onto flat rocks. all i had to show for it was alot of lost rigs in some of the worst ground i've fished, casting directly into big kelp beds!
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Went to this mark this evening for an hour with Neilus, the tide was out fully but he still pulled 2 nice huss, a 5.5lb pollack and had a couple of runs, not bad for an hour with some thawed out mackeral!

not bad in an hour with tide out though.

also had a few misses with pollack chasing the fly on the fly rod

I fished sandeel but no takers

must schedule a return visit when tide is in!
