Which Tripod

HI All,

I'm new to this site and pretty new to beach fishing.

Living in county Clare and just waiting on my new Suveran RX to arrive which I bought after driving myself mad trying to pick a new rod.

Have a pair of Slosh 20's on the way too.

Only been beach fishing this year after 20 odd years of river and lake on fly for all sorts!

Final piece of kit I want to buy is a good tripod.Any advice on where to get a good one would be great.

Tried alot of UK sites but postage is huge for them!

Seen a Daiwa Tripos locally for €80, are they any good?

get the ian golds 6ft supermatch tripod from gerrys of morecambe 8) . some tripods are good, ian golds are the best no question. havent seen the daiwa tripod but that is stupid money to pay for a tripod.

i use the ian golds super match rest 6ft.
very good tripod and very stable even in strong winds.
don't know the current price at the moment. you can also get ad on accessories.

Cheers Guys,

Just emailed both shops to see how much postage would cost.

Thought that 80 might have been a bit steep for the Daiwa one, but having never bought one I wasnt sure.

The golds one looks perfect!

Have the Daiwa very sturdy tripod. The cups glow in the "dark" lol. A little heavy but i dont mind hold's well in sand and can expand quite high for high rod positions. Thats the one I was looking at.

They did seem a bit heavy for sure but very very sturdy!

I thought maybe shop was just hiking up the price! but least I know now thats what he should have been charging! lol

Happyguy if your going to be doing alot of rock fishing I would look at the veals deluxe, it has a adjustable legs which makes a world of difference in getting a secure stance on uneven ground. I've got the Ian Golds also, very good tripod too but more suited to beaches and level ground etc.

Personnely I'd go for a golds over any of the rest. One thing that annoys me about the veals and others is the flat feet as opposed to spiked on the golds. It makes a big difference in holding the feet in place. Steves Shooting fishing sell them inside in Limerick city in the Milk Market. Ring beforehand to see if he has stock.

All the models had flat plastic feet that I've seen. I've just double checked with my catalogue that I keep in my work drawer. They've either changed them or have them on your model.

They are spiked, got that tripod about 4 years ago. Maybe they've changed em since. Agree with you about the need for the spikes though.

Pete:my fishing is probably mixed between rocks and beach, been checking out the veals selection and they must have renamed the models, waiting for postage costs from them too.

Donagh:Many thanks for info, rang Steve's earlier but shop was busy and guy said he would check if he has one in stock for me, so I will give a call to them in the morning again.

I picked up the Daiwa one again today in the shop but it felt so heavy! Nicely made and very strong but I imagine it would be quiet a chore to carry when walking to marks.

i have three different golds models (one each for the three of us) all of them are good but i would defo agree with getting the one with the adjustable telescopic legs. handy for transport and for adjusting if you fish piers( and want to get the legs into cracks or holes) or rocks

Adam S:Only seen the Super match one so far but having the telescopic legs really appeals to me as I want to just strap it to my back pack when walking to marks, some marks I go to have a bit of a trek so portability would be great!

walking with rods is awkward enough when crossing fields in the dark :lol:

If I was getting another one I definitely get one with telescopic legs, the one I have at the minute is really solid but it can be a pain to transport

Hi all

I decided to buy the VEALS pro tripod, seems to be a nice piece of kit.

postage £20 regardless of package size so to make the most of it I am ordering a load of breakaway leads and some other stuff! :lol:
