Report:
A hastily arranged trip that involved no bait digging (finest frozen razor) and no rig tying (mustads finest....  ) saw myself and Lee arrive to Garretstown at sunset for an impromptu session. I was curious to see if this beach would fish at all on the ebb, as I usually fish LW up here. Rods were assembled and baits despatched, 1 rod short at about 20 yards and the other fished at 90-100 yards. Conditions looked nice, the water was clear enough and there was a nice surf rolling in. Razor baits, as ever on this beach were to be the order of the day for the main with a sandeel section on one of the snoods for a marauding doggie.
Poor old Lee suffered the wrath of a Jack Russell which, on discovering there was nothing edible in his tackle box, relieved himself all over it in disgust.... :D If he forgot to wash that off, I'm sure the smell in the van this morning will remind him.... First casts were left about a half hour while I lovingly tended to a bucket of peelers I had picked up for the jaunt to Killybegs this weekend. Nothing showed at all so they were duly rebaited and despatched again.
2nd casts went out again with the same approach. Time passed and it was getting to the stage whereby you think it just isn't going to happen tonight. Still, the conversation was flowing and it was a change from the orgy of rig tying, tackle preparation and box organising that had been a feature of most evenings this week.
Mid conversation, I glanced up just in time to see the rod hoop over and jerk back as the line went slack. A classic bass hit and I legged it over towards the rod and wound like crazy as whatever had hit it had dislodged the grip lead and swum in towards the shore. Is it, isn't it, has he dropped it...wind, wind , wind..... Bingo!! I found myself connected to an angry fish that had elected to swim away down the beach. Much manic winding followed to keep pace with the fish as it seemed to be hell bent on beaching itself down the beach...! It wasn't long before a lovely fish of around 50cm graced the shingle, bristling with indignation.
A swift rebait and the rods were sent out again. With the dropping tide, a lot of weed which seemed to be holding offshore began making its presence felt and with the chippy closing at 12, 11.00pm saw me packing up and leaving Lee to it for another while. Not sure how he got on but I'm sure he'll pop by here later.
A pleasant evening of non too stressful fishing, just the job to unwind a little and a lovely fish to boot. No sign of any doggies or small stuff which was a bit of a surprise but then again we weren't exactly fishing too hard. That bass was the only thing I could categorically say was a bite that evening but still, nice to be out. :D

Yes, nice one Pete. I stuck it out till 12.30ish when the weed made its presence felt. One small bite, but no fish :( - at least you proved to me you can get them off there with razor.
I am still attached to my spot on the other beach and some lug, but you've done enough to get my to try that beach again sometime :)

Just reread the post, should have paid more attention to it - forgot about that bloody jack russel - meant to rinse it down by the water that night....it'll be stinking out my fishing cupboard now no doubt
