Duration: 0600-1500

Tide: high water 0930

Weather: calm, then s/se f4

Bait: mackerel, rag, frozen squid sandeel

Rigs: tope traces, flattie rigs, muppets sabikis

Results: mackerel, tope, doggies, plaice, flounder, dab

Report:
headed out as day was breaking. The boat had been lifted out for
routine maintenance and power hosed, and there seemed to be 3 or 4
knots extra speed for a given engine revs.

the plan was to fish a favorite mark on the bennet bank for tope at
the top of the tide. A bucket of mackerel was filled in no time,
anchor dropped and tope baits over the side

Stung out of his complacency by kevs sausages, Donogh began preparing
Eggs Benedict. Almost straight away the braid began flying from kevs
525. Just as the tope slowed he struck and she was well hooked. She
made severel very good runs on the light tackle and eventually came to
the boat. I got her in the landing net, but a slash of teeth and a
lunge she cut through the mesh. Eventually pulled aboard by the tail,
weight about 35lb. Excitement over, it was a breakfast to remember,
particulary the home grown dill mayo.

At exactly high water, my reel gave a really fast screaming run, but
the tope dropped it before I picked up the rod.

things went quiet for a couple of hours. so we began drifting and
experimenting with various rigs. The mackerel are incredibly thick
there, so it's almost impossible to get any rig to the bottom without
it being snatched. We did manage to scratch a few flatties out of it
before heading back for home as the southerly wind freshened.

Kev still manages to get himself in the picture without a life jacket :shock:
at least he got one on for the fish photo, i wonder did he take it back off again.

i taught he would have been more safety conscious since last week. but some never learn :roll: .

. We have your point now, that it would be a good idea to wear a PFD on a boat. there's no need to post this in every thread.

I'm very safety conscious, but not only in the last week.
I put the jacket on as I was leaning out the stern door to tail the tope.. Once on I left it on....

glad to get that point across.

i have on ly mentioned it twice and not in not in every thread.

the more it is mentioned the more likely people are to wear them.

as the saying goes better to be safe than sorry.

:D I know what you mean,

I would rather post a pic and let people have their say, than not post at all. It is a good idea to wear one at all times though.
