Where will I find bullhuss

#1 Post by Irish_Shamrock »

Alright men.

Can anyone tell me where I could have a go at landing my first bullhuss around the end of Aug/start of sept?

Thanks for any help.

aye.. heading out to test the local water this evening/night to see if they are around..

heard reports of them being caught in small boats just off the shore (600-800yrds) averaging 8lbs, hopefully they will come in closer as it gets darker, we usually see them in closer around september - november..

(P.S. keep an eye out for the next Galway meet.. it will be to target Huss and near the city)

Rossanrubble or Rossmureveagh both outside Newport in Mayo.
incoming tide, ideally nearing darkness, guaranteed.

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Flicking through the TV channels last night, came across Henry Gilbey fishing in the Shannon with Julian Shambrook...I only watched it for a few minutes, Henry had just caught 2 Bull Huss, one was 13lb the other 12lb...nice looking specimen indeed.

What did piss me off big time was watching Henry handle the fish, first he put the hook of the scales into the fishes gills to weigh the poor thing, then he held it by the tail, while he blabbed off his normal load of rubbish, all the time swinging the thing all over the place. Julian on the other hand kept the other fish resting on the kelp just under the water.

IMHO Henry or any other TV celebrity angler isn't doing the sport any good treating fish in this manner for the world to see on TV.....off my soap box now

Kieran those two spots you mentioned - are they both clean beaches? Any particular spot to fish?
