Killiney-25/07
People:Me and Ritchie
Duration:1900 hrs-2200hrs
Tide:Hi water and out going.
Weather:cloudy and windy
Bait:spinner,softies,plugs and feathers
Rigs:
Results:A few pollack,mack and bass
Catch and Release::Only keep the mack.
Report:Just finish wrapping my new travel spinning rods and really want to tried it out.Invited by Ritchie to join him for a spinning session in killiney. When we arrived, noticed theres rubbish left by angler around as describe by deno in his last report.Found a fly dropped by somebody....blue and white in colour....anybody lost a fly??Its too windy in my opinion for spinning, totally blind, cant feel anything even tho i am using braid.Tried every lure, but fail to hook anything, even my 40 gm spinner take time to touch bottom due to current and wind.Ritchie hook a few pollack with his toby....and a few mack with feathers....wind becoming stronger and we keep on trying. As its getting dark, got my first mack on spinner.A few minutes later got my first irish bass....not big...but its my first bass....quite disappointed as it took the spinner quite near to the rock where i am standing and its just a short fight....other than that it was an exciting take as the fish jump out of water to whack the lure....i wish it take the lure far out there not just a few meter in front of me.After a few photo the fish released unharmed. Thanks to the single hook....making job of unhooking easily....nice mark to fish...but maybe in a better calm condition...i believe theres a lunker bass lurking somewhere over there....Thanks to Ritchie for invited me to fish the mark.

Wow! I'm impressed. You're getting some good fishing in now. Sorry about the weather though - it's still nice and warm here in Malaysia!!
All the best & keep up the good work.

Great to see Joe get his first Bass, you put in the effort and you get the results, well done man!, and as he said, that spot has the potential to hold a bigger one and some big Pollock. We'll try again soon, for hopefully the big one!!. Pity about the rubbish though, can't understand people just leaving empty bottles there and black bags,it's a beautiful location and should be treated with respect.
Might be one of your flies Jack, blue and silver with a touch of red.
Jack..do you know if it's worth trying with some bait on the bottom there or is the ground too rough?,I think you'd end up losing loads of rigs?

A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!

Really nice bass, and regradless of size, a bass is a bass is a bass!
Hi Richie, I would think that the mark would be a graveyard for leads and rigs. On a really fine day at low tide you can see all the under water rock structures. From what I can remember the rock runs from the end corner of sorento terrace to white rock diving platform forming a triangle in the cove area. You would want to be a monster to be able to cast beyond it. However, if you are willing to throw caution to the wind and try lead and bait I would be very interested to hear how you get on.
I popped down again this morning to have a quick feather flutter for an hour but nothing was moving. The swell and wind had increased and it was difficult to cast without harpooning yourself in the back of the head (only happened once thankfully). The increased wave action also seemed to force the pollack offshore and decreased water visibility significantly. But a nice morning to be out and I took care of the bags and bottles.

Yeah the corner of the cove looks good but I've never ventured down their because of laziness and having to pick a path through all the new boulders that were put in place to stop the sea cliff eroding. However, in addition to another fishing report about killiney I did see something that looked very like sea trout leaving the water on a number of occasions about 4m out from the new limestone breakwater, but then again it could have been mullet or juvenile bass. Food for thought!
Tomorrow morning, depending on the weather I'm going to try sandcove, close to the harbour over the broken sandy ground. Although, I do seriously think that all these early mornings are beginning to take their toll on me as I put a spoon full of coffee in the jam jar at work this morning! oopsss!

Went down there towards the boulder pile for an hour around 2ish couldnt fish the small rocky beach because of the weed. Was using a popper lure and something jumped out after it, moved back closer the steps and managed to foul hook a launce and catch some pollack. There were loads of small pollack and launce smashing into a shoal of eels. The wind and swell was strong so couldnt flyfish to well.

Nice fish there jack....i still look at the place have a hi potential for the lunker size pollack and bass....rocky...weedy...i just suspect that theres to many smallies arround that will grab ur lure before the big un get to it....i think by down grading the gear and using a micro plug and spinner can provide more fun on this small fighter, but the problem is that i learned from my past experience that when u downgrade ur gear....the lunker will take it and snapped it into pieces most of the time...
