family trip to Antrim & Down

#1 Post by kieran »

Hi lads

Need some help here, want to take some photos (maybe even wet a line if there is time) around (a) Torr Head to Cushendall - Saturday evening and (b) Donaghadee and Bangor piers - Sunday morning.

Any help appreciated, ideally on the day or in advance, but afterwards is okay too!

Expect to be there on the weekend of 18th and 19th August... with entire family in tow! Anyone know of a good hotel with swimming pool (listed for the boys as "essential") that will not require a bank loan, please drop me a PM. Would like to stay around the Glens on the Saturday, probably have to take the Monday off so will want to stay somewhere near Bangor on the Sunday. If you know of playgrounds and other amusements that will keep two hyperactive boys, a baby and their mother happy... all appreciated. The names of any restaurants you can recommend would not go amiss ...

Hopefully we will use the material and photos for an IA article or two in the coming months on these venues, so I am mainly looking for someone willing to walk me around each of the venues, I'll do any driving and pay in liquid refreshments... you never know the boys in IA might give me a few tackle bits and pieces out of their "bank" to distribute as thanks.

Many thanks, and again if you want to PM rather than post here...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

Kieran,

Unfortunately i may be in Westport fishing that weekend! Otherwise i'd have been able to help you on the Saturday. Anyhow, here's my suggestions for where to stay / eat etc for the Glens part of your weekend.

If a pool is main priority then the only hotel in the area is the Marine in Ballycastle - has a country club that residents get free use of.

My preference would be Cushendall on Saturday night - there are several Hotels and B&B's in the area and plenty of hostelries in the town - though no pool!

The Glens Hotel is a nice spot right in the centre of the town

For food in Cushendall - "Upstairs at Joe's" on mill st. is well worth a visit.

The local council website has plenty of alternatives for accomodation / food etc.

Should give you something to think about anyhow!
