Visiting Cork for a fishing holiday

#1 Post by johnf »

Hello all,

I and some friends of mine will be visiting Ireland for the first time in a few weeks time for a fishing holiday.
We have hired a small boat for the week and will be staying in the Cobh area.
Coupled with that, we will be taking a set of shore gear each.
I think we will be concentrating mainly in the harbour itself.

We would appreciate any advice given on marks to fish and tactics/tackle to use.
We are from the Isle of Wight and are regular shore/boat anglers, but as I can gather from the mine of information on this site we employ completely different tactics to what you use.
We mainly fish at anchor with baits on running legers.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Many thanks
John

It all depends what species you're targeting. We often fish at anchor and we often use running legers. The harbour and outside offers a wide variety of species. PM Jim from Cork on this site or google Cork Small Boats Competition. This should give you plenty of info to get started.
