rod chioce and timing a pendulum cast

#1 Post by m.b3 »

can anyone recommend rods that make timing a pendulum easier? anyone had any experiences with trying out a rod that 'helped them cast'? user friendly if you will... just curious?

Been trying pendulum casting for a bit now mark. I can throw a normal fishing pendulum and a flat pendulum as well.

I have had a go with a few rods now and personally when looking for all out distance I prefere not to have a very tippy rod. I find that the lead "bounces" a bit during the swing..... I was throwing KStaff's Zippy 4500. Having said that, there was bags of power, so if you could get used to casting with the soft tip, you have good bite detection as well.

At the moment, I'm throwing a Century Ccd LD and I find it excellent. The tip is quite stiff and I find that this helps my timing quite a bit and the swing is smooth. Although the tip is stiff, the bite detection is very good. This is all based on 150g

I was throwing 85g (3oz) last night and found the timing much more difficult with the Ccd LD as I couldn't feel the lead. I was still getting the thing to fly 170 to 180 yards (aprox)

I will be trying the 4500 during the week for the lighter leads and will let you know how it goes.

I only started pendulum casting a few months ago and have tried a good few rods since and by far my favorate has to be the conoflex anubis 6oz.A great rod that helped me get the feel of things as I started off.I just wish I was able to cast it as far as the rod is capable of chucking a lead. (Now thats just my thoughts so no shouting at me if you's think I'm wrong  )

That the Anubis in my wee avatar thingy.

its a cracking rod alright jonny, i had the anubis plus (7oz) and still have the standard 6oz with a 2nd custom butt, but am waiting on a new tip for it as it exploded in mid wang on the 150g, the plus tip was the 1st to go earlier this year it snapped about 2ft down, id like to keep using them but my confidence is gone in them now, i like my Anubis-Tournament it has not given me any problems so far and is a real beast!! I hope i get on better with my new zziplex-FT i will know this weekend
Mark- what are you using now,,??

I was thinking of buying one myself at some stage but would hate to spend upwards of 300 quid for it to snap on me at some stage (not that I would be stressing it that much  ) maybe I'll just stick with my wee Apollo for a while yet
