A few fish for the species hunt
Here`s a few fish i caught yesterday 12-7-07 at a rock mark in north donegal.the red gurnard was caught using mack on a pulley pennel, the cuckoo ray was caught using squid/mack coctail and was only my second ever. The spotted was a new species for me and it was caught using squid and those new fish baits from baitbox, not sure what they are called but the look like garfish with no beaks.I`ll put up a full report later when i have more time

If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.

admissible species!
Hi
As fascinating as it is seeing all these mini species appear - and I am sure some marine biologist out there will find the final list very useful - we will have to put some reasonable limit of what is acceptable in terms of size.
The way it is going we will be looking for diatoms next! yeah, "hooked it on a size 1250 hook baited with a single zoo-plankton, thank god the sister works in an IVF clinic, a bugger to get them on the hook"...
On a serious note a concern has been expressed that the deliberate targeting of very small species might bring us into disrepute or provide a*u*nties with easy ammunition, and that is something we would all hope to avoid...
But it is very interesting to see what is out there...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...
2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Ah bugger ,and there was me going and buying a packet of size 20 hooks  my biggest problem would be getting 20lb mono through the eye of the hook
suppose the argument could be the fish are big for their species ie.mature and not showing immature fish markings .
maybe a rule to make for the future .
