killiney bass/sea trout

#1 Post by eric »

People:myself

Duration:7-10pm

Tide:full tide at 9pm

Weather:calm, warm and windless

Bait:j-11

Rigs:

Results:1 bass 5-6lb?

Catch and Release:: Yes

Report: went down today for a quick spin at whiterock. when i got down there, it was perfect, a flat calm sea that was really clear. i eagerly linked up my rapala and waded my way out to a nice rock post. a few minutes later sea trout were jumping everywhere, and one eventually found my lure. after a short battle he decided enough was enough, jumped out of the water and spat my lure out. the following cast my line snapped and after a 20 minute brake with another lure my j-11 floated back to me so i put her back on. about half an hour later and a nice bass hit the lure at the surface, and after a 15 minute battle on a 8lb line leader over my braid i managed to beach her. after that there wasn't much more action. i did however spot a small turbot as i waded my way back to land, rare for dublin, no?.
went back to the car park to try for a mackerel but they where a no show. a nice evenings fishing in all pity about the sea trout!

Do you think the sea trout would be more likely to take a fly?

don't really know waterbouy. i presume there feeding on small fry, so anything that looks like a small fish will take them. they only seem to be feeding at the surface anyway.

Well done Gazo.... I like the J13, super lure. I normally save the blue / white for water that has a little colour and go for Black / White in very clear water..... I might have to try the Blue a little more often :wink:

Nice fish there gazo.I suspected before that the place must hold a nice bass.Tried it a few time but cached nothing.Maybe the tides not rite and maybe i am at the wrong place at the wrong time.Will give it a go next time.
