bass around donegal?

Has anyone ever caught bass round malin head? as when im there the locals say there never caught round there,
what do you think the reason could be? further north, colder climate? the only fish that seemed to be caught are shilock the local name for (pollack), or the odd mackeral, and plaice, not to mention the odd thornback ray.
Any thoughts?

I had a bass on culdaff beach at the end of last year. 2 and a half pound. Toatally unexpected.

no doubt there are bass indonegal ,but you will have to do the leg work yourself as most people who do catch them keep it to themselves and are not willing to tell to many people.cant blame them really as you tell one person and he tells 4/5 more .and some guys tell loads more i can think of one guy who if you tell him you might as well put it in the papers.and then when you do go to fish again you cant get any where as its packed,like downhill some nights its like a city light up at night.cheers john

I would suggest trying any of the surf beaches west of Malin Head, at night, with decent fresh Lug and Razor baits fished close. If they are there, you will pick them up eventually..... Looking forward to getting up there in the near future and having a crack myself to be honest. There were one or two caught off Dunree as at Culdaff so they are definitely there. Nothing stopping you, daft as it may seem to the uninitiated, having a spin off the sand on any of the beaches in the evening time with a Kilty or similar.... You wont know till you try!
